1 dead, 1 injured in shooting on 40th St in Ensley

An investigation is underway in Ensley after a man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a shooting Monday afternoon.Birmingham police Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin said west precinct officers responded to 1100 block of 40th Street after ShotSpotter recorded 21 shots fired in the area around 3 pm Monday. At the scene, officers found a white van struck multiple times by gunfire with two adult victims inside.Mauldin said the man, later identified as 37-year-old Michael Arrington, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe the van was parked when the suspect(s) starting shooting into it. The reason behind the shooting is unknown at this time, but police believe the victims were targeted. suspects are in custody.
